I have severe anxiety to the point I nearly need to be hospitalised. Valium has been a life saver. It gives me the ability to break the anxiety cycle. I do find I get very drowsy and heavy. I take anywhere up to 10mg per dose. Averaging at 4-6mg and up to 4 times a day. Helps me to sleep and have a restful night.

I was prescribed this medication 30 years ago for anxiety due to a minor heart attack. As my anxiety greatly lessened, I found that an occasional (perhaps once a month) .25 mg dose at bedtime provides a great night of sleep, removes mental stresses and strains, and “resets” my outlook on life. Used responsibly in this manner, it isn’t habit-forming and I consider it an excellent drug.

After many years of Alcohol abuse (100 units a week) I decided to take action to curb my addiction and issues with alcohol. I was perscribed valium for the withdrawl process and it worked. Short term use only.

I take 1mg XR every morning and 0.5mg PRN. It stops panic in its tracks and alleviates hypomanic symptoms when they break through the cocktail of drugs I take for Bipolar 2. I have been using Xanax for about ten years, but even at this small dose I have one side effect: learning and memory problems. I now take as few PRNs as possible and take alternative meds (Inderal and Dexedrine) before I attend a class or lecture. That seems to be working.

I was diagnosed with GAD at 17. I didn’t want to be medicated as a teen and dismissed it. Later in life my anxiety became more severe and after battling cancer insomnia became unbearable. I feel like its a wonder drug for amy brain chemistry. I do hate being dependent on a sleep aide and mood altering drug but I have to have it. No amount of meditation seems to work like this drug. I get manic without it.

Started in 02′ taking 1 mg to sleep. In 09, I needed 2 mg. Now? In 16? After cold turkeying All of my pain meds, I went FOUR days w/out sleeping. Took one, nothing,2?slept.Now? I need 3 mg, at night only. Never take them during the day, ever. Just to sleep.
